Minister makes a return to Blundellsands and Crosby
Revd Keith Hulse was first inducted as a URC Minister 28 years ago and is now leading Blundellsands & Crosby URC in ministry, with one of his first events raising £1,000 for the Church’s Community Garden.
He describes his URC journey.
"In 1997 I was ordained and inducted to Crosby URC and St Paul’s URC, Bootle. In late 2002 I was diagnosed with having two cancerous tumours in my kidneys. In June 2003 I underwent an operation to remove those tumours. After a period of convalescence, I returned to my post only to find that my body was, at that time, not capable of full-time ministry. As a result, I was medically retired in July 2005.
“I wish now I had had the foresight to echo Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1984 film ‘Terminator’ by saying ‘I’ll be back’.
“In late 2018 I started to get to know the congregation at the now renamed Blundellsands and Crosby URC. Over the next few years I have led worship, helped with pastoral concerns and been involved in the social life the Church. Together with Keith Wright and the support of the elders I have seen the Enigmatic Community Recording Studio come to fruition in one of the old school rooms. This was always envisioned as the first step in a bigger project to maintain a Christian presence in that particular corner of Crosby.
“Currently, the congregation at Blundellsands and Crosby are having to move out of the main Church building and into the Church Hall, which is in fact the original home of the Church. In this context, the elders of the Church asked me to consider returning to my role as the minister of the Church on a part-time basis and helping them through this difficult time. With a sense that there is still work to be done in Crosby I agreed and I look forward to what God has in store for my ministry and the Church.
“On Saturday 8th February a Garden Fayre was held at Blundellsands & Crosby URC in conjunction with Bluebell Stalls (https://www.bluebellstalls.com/) in order to raise funds for the Bluebell Community Garden at the Church.
“As the event was going on a local artist, Jay Wheeler (LOVEartGlobal), painted one of the walls of the garden. The event raised £1000.00 for the Community Garden.”
